CONVERSE X FEAR OF GOD ESSENTIALS SKIDGRIP

Venturing down memory lane, Fear of God’s Jerry Lorenzo reimagines the Skidgrip silhouette for the streets of today. With its bold, vibrant colors, the Skidgrip Con-Rad was a go-to shoe for surfers and skaters in the late Eighties and a childhood favorite of Lorenzo. Hence this inspirational collaboration preserves the loud colors of the original while evolving the design for today. If the brightly printed canvas steers away from Lorenzo’s signature minimalist leanings, the clean design and sleek shape firmly place this updated classic in the Fear of God aesthetic. “We picked the Skidgrip because it was a shoe that I loved when I was younger. Our aim in bringing back a silhouette that has been perhaps overlooked is to bring it a fresh relevance," says Lorenzo. The story of the Skidgrip actually dates back to 1910, with the debut of the Converse Circular Vamp Oxford (CVO). In its various incarnations, the CVO hit tennis and basketball courts, as well as boat and skate decks, where it earned the name;"Skidgrip" in the early Sixties. Two decades later, it became an unwavering protagonist on the skate and surf scene. With a padded collar and distinctly Eighties graphics that nod to the original design, the streamlined midsole, brass eyelets and branded license plates usher the Skidgrip into 2020, rekindling its effortlessly cool legacy for a new generation.
