WORLDWIDE EXCLUSIVE: GUEST IN RESIDENCE BY GIGI HADID
Dec 05, 2022
For Gigi Hadid, a sweater is much more than a piece of clothing: it is a story, a marker of time, and a memory that contextualizes her world. During her endless days on the road, the cashmere sweaters handed down by her parents became cozy, portable keepsakes, each with its own history, feel, and personality. In that light, with Guest in Residence, a direct-to-consumer cashmere brand, the supermodel wants to create future heirlooms in the form of knitwear designed to last years, not seasons.
Hadid has chosen Antonia Milano as the only multi-brand store worldwide to launch the collection that will take center stage with dedicated holiday windows and a special installation running from Dec. 6-27.
“Antonia is a store that has supported me so much through a lot of my different design journeys, and I was so honored that they would give us this space for the season. We had so much fun designing it – it’s a window that would make me really happy to see if I was walking by, so I hope that I can bring that to Milan, and know that it was made and sent with love,” Hadid told WWD in an exclusive interview.
The idea of the collection stems from Hadid’s memoirs on years of travel and transience, away from home, when she felt like a guest in residence regardless of the place.
“I always tried to find ‘home’ within myself—my internal residence. I became comfortable with the concept of a guest in residence. And it made me think further: We’re guests on this planet and in our bodies, guests when we travel, and indeed, guests in our clothes. Clothes, when well made, can have many different lives, different owners, and different stories. The genesis of Guest In Residence is to honor past heirlooms and give life to new ones spanning generations,” contends Hadid
The wide-spanning offering ranges from soft, slouchy designs to cropped and shrunken essentials, plus base layer leggings, joggers, shorts, barn jackets, and varsity ones, all in plush cashmere in a rainbow of colors and classic neutrals.
