The Nike c/o Virgil Abloh “Athlete in Progress” collection tributes the unwavering confidence of runners, their power of self-belief; and admirable consistency, from the unprecedented marathon performances of 1984 to the continued efforts to break boundaries in; 2019. And where one-hundredth of a second makes or breaks the fight for a personal best or world record. For the “Athlete in Progress” collection, Abloh mined Nike’s rich heritage in track and;field with an assortment that balances performance pieces and post-run apparel and footwear, inspired by Nike’s storied running shoe designs. Featuring striking patterns and silhouettes built for speed, Abloh delivers on-and-off-the-field style and substance, epitomized by the Nike x Off-White Waffle Racer. Inspired by the foundation created by Bill Bowerman, this race-inspired design brims with color and iconic details. ; "I started talking with Nike about this women’s running project last summer and at the time, I was very much inspired by the aesthetic and style;of track and field athletes. As a result, I invited some of Nike’s elite track and field champions to participate in my SS19 Off-White runway show as the natural forerunner to developing and showcasing the collection," says Abloh. In that vein, “Athlete in Progress” debuted in Paris;as part of the Off-White SS19 runway show with athletes Dina Asher-Smith, Vashti Cunningham, Cecilia Yeung, English Gardner, Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Nafi Thiam, Caterine Ibarguen and Rénelle Lamote. ; The sneakers release on Dec. 12.
