ADIDAS ORIGINALS TEAMS UP WITH HOT, WEST-COAST-BASED BRAND 424
Nov 30, 2019
For his first collaboration with adidas Originals, Guillermo Andrade, the founder of 424, a hot retail pioneer based in Los Angeles that includes a clothing and jewelry, applied his clean, contemporary vision to three classic Adidas footwear models.
Spurred by his signature of-the-now streetwear aesthetic, Andrade opted for a less-is-more feel, creating a strong balance between freshness and the timeless craftsmanship and attention to detail that has defined Adidas’ sporting heritage over the decades.
The trio of kicks revisited by Andrade are the SC Premier and the Pro Model. The first, a minimalist model that harks back to a golden age of tennis designs, was stripped down even further and served up in two colorways, black and off-white. Crafted from full grain leather and suede, it features a subtle laser engraved 424 logo and the co-branding on the tongue, which is also the only part of the shoe to feature a pop of color – the scarlet red patch that has become synonymous with the 424 brand in recent years.
The Pro Model, a classic basketball shoe from the Seventies that became indelibly linked to the hip-hop scene in the Eighties, is essentially a hi-cut version of the inimitable adidas Superstar. Again, Andrade strips the shoe back to showcase its core qualities, with a chalk white finish and cold cement tooling. Here, his distinctive flash of scarlet pops out on the heel.
424 was co-founded with Andrade’s determination to succeed and was first forged during the arduous journey he took with his family from his birthplace of Guatemala to the United States when he was just eight years old.
