The power of tradition, especially the millennial Chinese one, inspires the CLOT x Nike basketball collection that includes a jersey, shorts, jacket and headband. CLOT Creative Director Edison Chen celebrates the summer's premier basketball tournament in China, the first global one since 2008, and honors his country’s heritage to connect tradition to sport via an unexpected thread: Chinese lion dancing. “We’re from China, and lion dancing is something that has always been a part of our culture," explains Chen. "It means celebration, longevity, good fortune and good luck — all things that you wish to have on the basketball court." In that light, the collection's aesthetic draws from costumes commonly worn during the lion dance, interpreted in signature red with black, plus the CLOT dragon embroidered alongside two symbols “??”, or champion, on the shorts. “The red is representative of CLOT. And the changing of the red colors is kind of like a change over the years — growing as a company and growing with Nike, as well as being excited to be a part of the basketball push in China this year," says Chen.
