NIKE SPACE HIPPIE: NEW LIFE TO TRASH

Talk about the power of transformation. The new Nike Space Hippie is considered “exploratory footwear,”;constructed with scraps of material from Nike’s factory floors, resulting in a radical expression of circular design;and eco-sustainability. In what the sports powerhouse considers its lowest carbon footprint score ever, each;detail from the materials to the manufacturing to packaging were chose considering the environmental impact. Inspired by life on Mars, where materials are scarce and there is a lack of resupply, the Space Hippie is the bond;between sustainable practices and radical design. It is the idea of turning trash into a different form of art, setting a;new benchmark in this arena. "Space Hippie product presents itself as an artifact from the future. It's avant garde; it's rebelliously optimistic," says;John Hoke, Nike Chief Design Officer. "Space Hippie is also an idea. It is about figuring out how to make the most;with the least material, the least energy and the least carbon." According to Hoke, this new standout kick triggered a new way of looking at materials, the approach and;aesthetics. Indeed its 'Space Waste Yarn' upper, made from 100 percent recycled material, including recycled plastic water bottles, T-shirts, and yarn scraps, in reddish or grayish earthy tones that evoke the colors and blurriness of the planet. "We believe the future for product will be circular," says Seana Hannah, VP, Sustainable Innovation. "We must think about the entire process: how we design it, how we make it, how we use it, how we reuse it and how we cut out waste at every step. These are the fundamentals of a circular mindset that inform best practices." Our raffle is now live, ending on July 15th at 17.00 CEST.;
